Jesus

Understanding the name of Jesus

The Lord appeared to Joseph, and announced to him that Mary would conceive and bear a son, and told him to name the child Jesus, “for he will save his people from their sins”

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 KJV

The name Jesus (Yeshua/Joshua) means “the Lord saves.” Like Joshua of old, Jesus will deliver his people from their bondage and bring them into the true promised land of God’s forgiveness. But Jesus bears this name not merely as an instrument or conduit of God’s salvation. He embodied this salvation in his own person as Immanuel, “God with us” (Matt 1:23; Isa 7:14).

The Power in the Name of Jesus

The name of Jesus carries inherent power to cause every adverse thing to bow.

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:17-18 KJV

There is healing and deliverance available in the name. the name has so much power such that even the demons tremble at the sound of the name of Jesus. Storms are made to be still in that name, even the winds obey him, the sick recover in his name, and everything on earth responds to the name of Jesus. Those who believe in the name can cause a change in their world through that name.

How come this name wields so much power?

The Source of Power: Philippians 2:5-11

The power is not in the letters that spell the name, neither is it because he was born in Bethlehem.

Let me take you through these scriptures…

Philippians 2:5-11 KJV

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The scripture here explains to us that the exaltation of the name of Jesus was a response to the humility and obedience of Jesus. He humbled himself to death, even the death of the cross, for this reason, God exalted him highly and gave him a name above all other names, the heaven and the earth respond to the name of Jesus.

Hey Folks! What difficult situation are you in now, in what area of life are you stuck, begin to address that situation in the name of Jesus right now because there’s so much power in that name.

The Power of Attorney

Who is an attorney? An attorney is legally appointed to transact business on another’s behalf. The power of attorney is a written authorization to represent or act on another’s behalf in private affairs, business, or other legal matters.

Jesus when He was about to ascend to heaven said to his disciples, “…And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18 KJV

He lets us know he now has the authority over heaven and earth but guess what, he didn’t take it with him, he gave it to us before ascending to act in his stead.

“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19 KJV He said the power knows or has no boundaries as long we authorize everything in His name.

Acting in Jesus’ Stead

“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:18, 20 KJV

This is Jesus telling us to act in His stead because He is not here with us on earth in person but doing everything through us. We have the authority to act in his place, let me help you understand this…

If the president of a country for example isn’t available to rule the country for whatever reason, the power and authority for one to act in his place shall be conferred on the vice president, which means everything the vice president does, is assumed the president does it because he (the Vice president) has the power of attorney to function on behalf of the president. This is how we are in the eyes of God and that’s why God responds to us when we come to Him in Jesus’ name. No wonder Jesus said, “greater works than these shall ye do because I ascend to my father.”

Conclusion

In conclusion, the name ‘Jesus’ holds incredible power for those who believe. This name has divine significance and can be associated with authority or healing. Always remember to speak in His name with faith in your heart when you are facing challenges; therein lies the transformative power that can bring about miracles in your life. However, the power in the name of Jesus is only available to those who believe in the name of Jesus as He said. The question is “Do you believe in the name of Jesus?”
